In 2002 I received an invitation from Dr. Ian Farrington, at the Australian National University, to participate in a symposium on sacred landscapes in Canberra. The invitation came with a plane ticket to fly to the other side of the world, something I had never anticipated as a young Argentinean scholar. Not only was I planning to attend the meeting and visit the local museums, but I was already looking forward to experiencing the unique charm of this island continent, where Aborigines have led nomadic lives, hunting, gathering and fishing, keeping their beliefs and rituals alive for thousands of years.
